Stones have been carved and painted for thousands of years, for many reasons. Universally, rocks, stones, and pebbles are symbolic of strength, comfort, and being grounded. There are totem stones, tali-stones (talismans carved or painted), comfort stones, worry stones, and kindness stones.
Carrying or holding stones brings many people comfort. They can be used as a stress reliever (by rubbing), as a reminder of a person or place, to call upon a higher deity, as a talisman to protect from harm, as a reminder of strength- the list goes on. Stones are also traditionally left on graves or in special places, as a sign of silent support.
I will be painting rocks, pebbles, or stones, then documenting the final product and giving coordinates for where each little friend is left. Anyone can choose to find them- otherwise, they will be organically found in a few days, weeks, or.... years from now.
There is a theme for each week that the illustrations of the stones are based on. Folklore, mythology, special powers, and poetry will all pop up. Click the stone's picture for more info.
