MFA THESIS
"1900 Delicious Way, Wilkes Barre PA" is a fictional space, or place, Leibrand constructed in order to investigate nostalgia and sentimentality. Just as photographs attempt to freeze a moment in time, "1900 Delicious Way" is an attempt to collect and hold a family together.
The fabric pieces are made of images collected from the artist's family albums. These images were digitally altered to include family members who could have never been together at that instant in time. This process, and the manipulation of the fabric, demonstrate the malleability and delicate nature of our memories. Which memories are real, and which are reconstructed? The miniature furniture pieces capture small memories or moments in time, by way of souvenir, and introduce the recollection of memories through other senses- taste and smell. They are offered in a domestic space in an attempt to invite viewers to interact and create a new moment with those around them. |
