February 6 & 7
Days 6 & 7 In a different Greek myth, Aphrodite, goddess of love, fell in love with Adonis. Adonis was a mortal (with a really weird conception story, also involving Aphrodite, but I won't get into it here). He loved to hunt, and usually Aphrodite would ride behind him on her chariot as extra protection. One day she did not accompany Adonis on a hunt, and he was killed by a wild boar. Some versions of the story say the wild boar was Aries, Aphrodite's jealous lover, in disguise. The goddess sped to Adonis when she heard his scream, and tried to heal his wounds with magic nectar. She was too late and Adonis died, but his blood mixed with the magic nectar and soil and created a bed of red Anemones. Adonis was loved by another goddess, and she will be the next theme....
