Day 15 One of the first ingredients that can be found in Florida Water or Eau de Cologne, is lavender. Lavender is a flowering herb that has been highly esteemed for thousands of years, it's name coming from the Latin lavare, "to wash". Now regarded as a scent that promotes calm, it has had other meanings throughout its history. Lavender is also known as "elf leaf", and was known to promote the ability to see ghosts or spirits in other realms. It is a charm against the evil eye, a talisman of inner sight, magic, memory, and sleep. Some consider it a cure-all whether it is used as a tincture, in tea, in foods, alcohol, as an essential oil, etc. In the Victorian Language of Flowers, Lavender signifies "mistrust" because of a Victorian legend that a deadly asp was hidden in the lavender bush that Cleopatra hid under before she died (by suicide or by the serpent). Lavender also means "devotion" and is believed to promote peacefulness and love. It is associated with Mercury and the air element (and Gemini and Virgo signs). Its magical properties are all positive, and the color of the plant is associated with the crown chakra. Possible Powers: Inner Sight, Memory, Calm, Love Located: 29.8144549, -85.3047353 |
